Hope Heller, LCSW-C Licensed Clinical Social Worker Chronic Illness, anxiety, life transitions

Hope has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry, with a specific focus in the Huntington’s Disease community.  In 2009, Hope met her first patient with Huntington’s Disease, which lead to her becoming the social worker for the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) DC Metro Chapter. Here, Hope spent over 6 years facilitating their support groups and providing the broader HD community with support and resources.

In 2012, while working on the Neuro-ICU at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Hope was recruited to help start and build MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Huntington’s Disease Care, Education, and Research Center (HD CERC), the first multidisciplinary Huntington’s Disease center in the DC Metro Area. Her work played an integral role in the HD CERC receiving and maintaining HDSA Center of Excellence designation. In addition to supporting patient families, Hope ran the multidisciplinary clinics, coordinated clinical trials, planned, and coordinated community education events. Hope was also the first line of contact for anyone seeking care or genetic testing through the HD CERC.

Hope continues to provide training to healthcare facilities, and consults for pharmaceutical companies on Huntington’s Disease outreach.  She has served on the Huntington’s Study Group Member Education committee and Executive Coordinator Council. Over the years, Hope has been able to take advantage of her proximity to Capitol Hill, advocating for Huntington’s Disease and other rare diseases.

Hope strongly believes that everyone should have access to good healthcare and be provided education on navigating our healthcare and long-term care systems. Moreover, she believes that Advanced Directives are a gift we give to our loved ones. She is licensed in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.

At Heller Psychology Group, Hope provides individual psychotherapy for adults and does some family work (with adults) as well. While she works with clients who have a variety of presenting issues, she specializes in helping people navigate anxiety, chronic illnesses, and life transitions.
